Since 2015 SUV segment has seen a growth of 400%. With this, there is also a growth in the performance SUV too. BMW is now launching a performance variant of BMW X3 to compete against Audi SQ5 and Mercedes AMG GLC43. The new BMW X3 M40i M Performance model produces 355bhp of power. Although the car will be up for sales in November this year they have revealed the car earlier. The new BMW X3 is based on the BMW’s modular CLAR platform. Benefits of this architecture, new X3 is actually larger and lighter than the outgoing model. BMW X3 M40i comes with four wheel drive as standard.

The new X3 comes with an option of 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre engine. The 2.0-litre engine produces 187bhp and 295lb ft of torque. The 3.0-litre engine comes in two states of tune the normal version produces 261bhp and 369lb ft of torque. The M40i Performance variant with 369lb ft of torque is capable of clocking 0-62mph in just 4.8secs. There are some rumours about the growth of the BMW X3 line-up. Also in addition to the petrol powered engine, there will also be hybrid along the way as well. BMW is also planning a Tesla X rival as well- a pure electric powered BMW X3. The hybrid and electric models are expected to hit the market in 2020.

The new X3 is 4716mm long, 1897mm wide and 1676mm high. This makes the new X3 61mm longer, 17mm wider and 16mm wider than the last BMW X3. The new X3 also gets a longer wheelbase too, at 2864mm, it is 54mm longer than its predecessor. As told earlier the new X3 is based on the BMW’s modular CLAR platform so it is lighter and has more interior space than it predecessor. This also widens the gap between the X1 and the X3. The new gen X3 is now almost as big as X5.
